Solar System Maintenance

Maintaining your Solar system is important to maintain the on-going efficiency of the system.  The frequency and type of maintenance required will depend on not only the type of system you have installed but also its location and local factors.

There are two elements to your PV system that require on-going attention:

Solar Panels

Solar Panels have no moving parts so they are relatively maintenance free.  However, they will collect dust and debris and may also be subject to bird droppings or sap from trees depending upon location.  UV light will break down most of this and the rain will wash it away if the solar panels are tilted.  However, some debris may collect around the edges and corners of the panel frame and over time, if this is allowed to build up, may impact the performance of the panel.  We recommend cleaning your panels at least every 2 years to make sure this build up doesn’t become an issue.  If your panels are mounted flat, you may need to clean them more frequently to maintain performance of the system.  Many window cleaning companies now offer a panel cleaning service or we can organise this on your behalf.  It’s important to make sure that the panels can be cleaned safely and that they are not cleaned with any cleaning agents or chemicals.  We recommend using a purified water cleaning system.

Inverter / Electrical Components

Monitoring the performance of your PV system via a monitoring device is the best way to spot any issues at an early stage.  If you do spot an issue then your installer can generally look at the error code on your inverter to identify the cause and put it right for you.  It is recommended to have an inspection and test visit every 2-4 years to check on the overall condition of the installation although some of our customers prefer to have this check carried out annually for their peace of mind.

Warranty Call Out

Domestic up to 4kW – £80 + VAT         Commercial more than 4Kw – £115 + VAT

If your solar PV system has stopped working, and was installed by a company other than Morgans Solar, we can provide a call out service.  Our call out charge covers the first hour to diagnose the fault.  We can then liaise with the relevant manufacturer in order to arrange replacement products, if required, at which time we will be able to advise if there are any additional costs involved.
