The installation of a Solar system on the roof or wall of a building generally falls within permitted development under planning rules with the following exceptions:
- If the building is listed you will need to apply for planning permission.
- If the building is in a conservation area, you will need to check with your local planning office to see if planning permission is required.
- If the installation is on a flat roof, planning permission will be required.
Ground mounted installations will also require planning permission and may be subject to certain requirements regarding the siting of the ground array.
